Complexul Energetic Valea Jiului SA (CEVJ), having the Romanian Ministry of Energy as its sole shareholder, and Green Gravity, an important Australian provider of energy storage technology, have signed a framework agreement to explore the possibility of utilizing Green Gravity technology in 17 Romanian coal mine shafts in the Jiu Valley, Romania. This partnership aims to transform existing Romanian coal mines into Romanian energy storage facilities, contributing to the energy transition and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Romania in line with the goals of the European Green Deal and the decarbonization of the Romanian energy sector. Green Gravity technology utilizes low-cost, long-life gravitational energy storage, representing an innovation in renewable energy and climate action.
